Psalm's Home Page

My Official Home on the Web!

Hello there, and welcome to my home page! :) My name is Psalm, and I live in the Deep South, in Alabama, the Heart of Dixie. I am 24 years old, I was born right here in Alabama, and I'm proud to be a Southerner!

Please let me know what you think of this page. I would love to hear from you! My email address is [email protected].

I wasn't sure what kind of stuff people would be interested in, so I thought I'd just share some things about myself, and what I'm interested in. Just pick one of the links below. :)

About My Name

You are probably wondering if my name is really Psalm. People ask me that all the time, especially on the Internet. The answer is yes! I know it’s a different name than what people are used to, but the Lord gave me my name. When I was in school, the kids used to make fun of my name because it was different, so I didn't like it much back then. But as I got older, I noticed that people weren't making fun of it. So I gradually learned to appreciate it and what it means.

How did I get such a unique name? When I was born, my parents were trying to find a name for me, and nothing seemed right. One morning my dad was reading his Bible, and he came across the scripture in Ephesians (Eph. 5:19 KJV) "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." My dad felt the Holy Spirit saying, "How about that for a name?" My dad stopped there and said, "Yeah...how about that?" He asked my mom what she thought, and she liked it too. So, that's what they named me. :)

The Hebrew meaning of the word Psalm is: "A song with musical accompaniment." I think the Lord knew what He was doing when He gave my dad that name. :) Because music is a very important part of my life. Besides singing, I also play the piano and keyboard. More about that under Interests and Hobbies. :)

Things that are important to me

I guess by now it's obvious that I am a Christian. :) And I am not ashamed to say that. I love Jesus with all of my heart. Without Jesus, life wouldn't be worth living. I have been a Christian ever since I was a child, when I gave my heart to Jesus. And as I mentioned earlier, I love to sing, and one of the things I love to sing about the most is Jesus, about His love, how he gave His life for us, and washed our sins away. I can't imagine my life without Jesus. There is a song that I heard that says it very well, "…take away Jesus, and I'd be a miserable man." How true that is. Man has a need for God in his life. He may search the world over trying to fill this need, but only one thing can fill it. It is my belief that what the world needs is Jesus.

My Family

My family is important to me. My father passed away in '95, which was a drastic, life-changing experience for me. My mother and I have always been close, but this brought us even closer because we had each other to lean on. My father had two sisters who live here in Alabama also, but both his parents passed away before he did. My mother's family lives in North Carolina, which is about 400 miles away, so we don't get to see them as much as we would like. In spite of the distance, they have all been very supportive. My mom's dad passed away in '78, so my grandmother knew what my mom was going through. My mom's two sisters also live there, and my sister and her husband. My sister has the cutest little girl in the whole wide world. Of course, I'm being totally objective and it has nothing to do with her being my niece. ;) But it does seem that every time I see her, she's more grown up than last time. She's not a baby anymore. Now I know what everyone was talking about when I was little and they said, "They grow up so fast, don't they?" It didn't seem that way at the time though!

I also have a little dog named Precious. She keeps me company and makes my life more interesting. She's just like one of the family. I've put more stuff about her and some pics in the Photo Gallery.

My Friends

Friends are also important to me. The past few years have brought some very big changes in my life, and without my friends both in 'real life' and on the 'Net, I don't know how I would have made it to where I am today. I am not going to list all of them here, because not only would the list be a rather long one, but I don't want to take the chance on leaving anyone out! :) I trust that you know who you are and that I appreciate each and every one of you.

Here are some links to web sites put up by some of my online friends. If you have a web page too, please let me know and I'll be happy to put in a link next time I update the page.

Interests and Hobbies

One of the things I'm most interested in is computers. And I like talking online on IRC and ICQ. I use mIRC to access IRC. I also like using ICQ, which allows you to chat with your friends no matter where they are on the net...even in real time! You can send files and Web addresses and more. :) Sorry if I sound like an advertisement, but it's great...and you can get ICQ by clicking here. You will most likely find me online most nights. My favorite channel to hang out on is #Christian_Singles. Visit their website here.

Another channel I like, even though I haven't been there as much lately, is called #Jesus! It was the first Christian channel I ever visited on IRC. They have a wealth of information on their web site that is extremely helpful. :) Click here to give them a visit. Or visit them on IRC, but don't forget the "!" on the end.

Another thing I'm really into is music. I love singing and playing the piano and keyboard, as well as listening to music. My favorite kinds of music are Southern Gospel and Contemporary Christian. My favorite Southern Gospel singers are Squire Parsons, Cathedrals, and Gold City, among others. My favorite Contemporary music singers are Dallas Holm, Steve Green, Michael W. Smith and I've heard some of Michael Card's songs which were quite good. I also enjoy Jazz and blues, some types of popular music and Classical, and some types of Country (the older stuff mostly...not the new stuff :) ).

I also enjoy reading, though I don’t get to do that as much now that I'm out of school and working full time. But I do still like to do that when I get the time. I like reading lots of different stuff, fiction and non-fiction. I don't really read the newspapers though, if I want news or weather I watch TV or or listen to the radio...or go to one of the news sites on the Web. One of my favorites is MSNBC.com, For tech news, I like ZDNet.

Where I Work

A necessary part of life is work, and it helps to do something that is interesting. I work for AT&T Teleconference, where we set up conference calls. It's kinda fun to talk to people all across the country, even in other parts of the world, you learn a lot about people. Should you want to know more about teleconferencing, just click on the link above.

Photo Gallery

I thought I'd put up some pictures I have, since I know everyone likes pictures. :)

This is my picture to the right. It is a few years old by now, since I was 21 when it was taken. I do not have a scanner, so this is the only pic I have right now. Maybe I'll get around to getting new one made someday. Maybe my hair is a bit different, but other than that, I don't think I've changed that much. :)

Here's my cute little puppy. Isn't she adorable?? She looks much better in real life, but this is as close as I could come on the net. :) She is about 1 year old, and very loyal. She always gets so excited when I come home that she falls all over herself! And her little stub of a tail is wagging for all she's worth.

Here's another picture of her, doing what she loves best…playing. She has an old tennis ball she loves to bring to me so I can throw it for her to chase. She loves it! It's amazing how she can find so much pleasure in simple things. It doesn't matter to her how much you spent, she just wants love and attention. :) And she seems to think she's a real person, hehehe.

Here are some pictures of what Alabama looks like in the spring. I love springtime, when everything is fresh and new, and it's not too hot yet. :)

(The house in the picture isn't mine, but I thought the bushes were pretty.)
